Bailey of Bristol is a long-standing British manufacturer specialising in caravans, motorhomes, and campervans. Founded in 1948 and based in Somerset, the brand has established itself as a cornerstone of the UK leisure vehicle industry. Bailey is recognised for its commitment to structural integrity, notably through the development of its patented Alu-Tech body shell construction system, which provides enhanced thermal insulation and durability across its ranges.
The current catalogue features a diverse selection of vehicles, including the popular Phoenix and Unicorn caravan series, the Adamo and Autograph motorhome lines, and the more recent Endeavour campervan range. Each vehicle is designed and engineered in the UK to balance weight, performance, and interior comfort, catering to various requirements from solo travellers to large families.
As a manufacturer with over 75 years of experience, Bailey focuses on delivering practical, all-season touring solutions for the modern explorer.
The Bailey of Bristol story began in 1948 when Martin Bailey built his first caravan, the 'Maestro', in his garage and sold it for £200 at a local market. This modest start led to the formal incorporation of F.G. Bailey Ltd, quickly outgrowing its original premises and moving to South Liberty Lane in Bristol, where the company remains headquartered today. Throughout the mid-20th century, Bailey played a pivotal role in the expansion of the British caravanning movement, surviving various economic shifts by focusing on robust engineering and value.
The 1980s and 90s saw significant growth, but arguably the brand's most important milestone arrived in 2009 with the launch of the Alu-Tech construction system. This move away from traditional timber frames to an interlocking aluminium framework revolutionised how Bailey vehicles were built, offering better protection against the elements and improved structural stability. Recognising shifting market demands, Bailey expanded beyond caravans into the motorhome market in 2011 with the Launch of the Approach SE. Today, Bailey of Bristol operates as one of the UK’s largest manufacturers, producing thousands of units annually and remaining a family-owned business. With over 100 models in their current catalogue, they continue to refine their campervan, caravan, and motorhome offerings from their state-of-the-art production facility in the South West.
