About Compass motorhomes

The Compass story began in the late 1960s, founded by S. D. C. Builders in Sedgefield, County Durham. A major turning point occurred in 1998 when Compass was acquired by the Explorer Group, aligning it with the Elddis brand. Following a brief absence from the market during an industrial restructure in 2009, Compass was successfully relaunched in 2013 to meet continued consumer demand. A pivotal technical milestone occurred in 2012 with the introduction of SoLiD Construction. Developed in partnership with Henkel, this innovative chemical bonding process eliminated thousands of screws and bolts, resulting in a more durable and weather-resistant shell. In 2017, the brand’s parent organisation was acquired by the Erwin Hymer Group, one of the world's largest leisure vehicle manufacturers. This transition provided Compass with international resources and investment while preserving its heritage as a British manufacturer.
