Fixed Bed: What it means and why it matters

A fixed bed is a permanent sleeping area that does not need to be made up or converted from a seating area. It is the most popular layout feature in modern caravans and motorhomes.

Fixed beds stay made up at all times. You simply pull back the duvet and climb in. This is the single biggest quality-of-life improvement over older convertible layouts where you had to dismantle the lounge every night. Fixed beds come in several configurations: transverse (across the width), longitudinal (along the length), island (accessible from both sides), and French (diagonal). Most modern caravans over 5m and most motorhomes now offer a fixed bed of some type.

    Why this matters

A fixed bed transforms the touring experience. No more making up beds after a long drive. It is the most requested feature among couples buying their first or upgrading caravan.
